Introduction

Introduction : The Research and PG Department of Botany in N.T.V. S’s G.T. Patil Arts, Commerce and Science College, Nandurbar was started on 15th June 1969. It started T. Y. B. Sc Botany in 1973-74 and M.Sc. Botany was started in June 1989 to 2001. There was a gap of one decade due to unavailability of sufficient number of students. However, department restarted P.G. in 2013-14 to till date. The main thrust area of teaching and research are Plant Pathology, Plant Physiology, Cytogenetics & Plant Breeding, En, Plant Biotechnology and Systemic Botany Presently, teaching activities include under-graduate and post-graduate semester courses and Ph.D. programmes. The department has made a steady progress in all these areas.

The course introduces students to the importance of plants as an integral part of existence on the planet. It is imperative to internalize fully the fact that human existence depends on plants and hence, the necessity to conserve nature is the need of the hour.

  4. 4. To impart theoretical knowledge and practical skills to students, fostering their understanding of plants and their significance.

  6. 6. To prepare students for careers in various fields related to botany.

A few activities are conducted at the end of each semester which are relevant to the topics covered. Algal collections, mushroom cultivation, visits to tissue culture labs, plant collection trips, project works, maintenance of plant diversity on campus are few of the activities. These activities enable the students to study the subject outside the classroom environment.

  1. • Research activities carried are being continuously carried out in the department One student completed his Ph. D. degree by KBCNMU under the guidance of Dr. Prem Kumar Gautam in the year 2021-22. and three students have been registered for Ph.D.

  2. • Soft skill programme was organized by department of Botany.

  3. • Faculty prepare students for Avishkar. Every year 2 to 3 groups participate in the programme.

  4. • The department conducts seminar for B. Sc. & M.Sc. students

  5. • Mushroom cultivation programme is on the floor. soon mushroom culture will be one of the important activity of the department

  6. • B.Sc. Botany and M. Sc. Botany student regularly there taken for field visits as per their scheduled syllabus.

  7. • Botanical Garden and green house were renovated in the year 2022-23

  8. • flora of the in GTP Campus was completed

  9. • Student of Pharmacy Collage visited our Botanical Garden and our staff members tried their level best to explain them about flora in botanical garden.

  • • Ashish Bharat Valvi was awarded with Ph. D degree by KBCNMU under the guidance of Dr. Prem Kumar Gautam in the year 2021-22.
